Hi There
We have just finished our second housesit and it has left us with a very bitter taste. We agreed to housesit in Adelaide for 3 months looking after a dog. The owner requested a bond and that we also pay the electricity and gas.

On their return we had to leave immediately for Darwin for our next housesit. A week later we phoned the owners to find out why they had not put the money into our account. He had the audicity to ask us whether we were desperate for the money (obvisiously he had spent it) and also said we had to pay an extra $30 for sewerage and water. While we agreed to the electricity and gas cost this was just over the top.

Reading this email now it has stupid, stupid, stupid written all over us. We will never again agree to pay a bond or any utility costs in future. We walked and groomed this guy's dog every day, repaired his crappy pergola so it wouldn't blow down in the wind, mowed his lawn every week and kept his high maintenance garden weed free.

We have now received the bulk of the bond back but not all. I hope others will learn from our naive and trusting attitude. Our first housesit was fantastic but not our second. We start our Darwin housesit on Thursday so hope it goes a lot better.

I have looked for an email address for Ian but am unable to locate it.

Cheers
Elwynn

Hi Elwynn,

sorry for your nightmarish experience. Thanks you for sharing it with us. Ian's e-mail is : ian@housecarers.com.

I have just signed up for my first housesitting "job" in Calgary, Canada. Will be looking after a patting ZOO: 3 dogs and a cat so am looking forward to my new adventure. In 10 days received 7 offers incl. Italy and Germany. Am committed to stay here now but my next big trip will deffinetely be as a housesitter.

Best of luck,

Jana
